I have never really been one to take elaborate vacations. I do not like to fly (turbulence scares me to death as well as take off and landing), vacations are expensive, and it’s a pain to make arrangements for my children (actually I only have one left at home now).
I have recently begun to do more of what makes me happy and take more time for myself (I’m not getting any younger). I have taken day trips and weekend trips and pampered myself when possible.
I am expanding my horizons and determined to actually take “a real” vacation next year. I have decided on Negril, Jamaica. I have specifically chosen the Rockhouse Hotel in Negril, Jamaica. The reviews and pictures are beautiful.
I will wake to yoga on the beach and dine on exquisite cuisine (I love Jamaican food!). I will lie on the beach and be pampered with massages and other spa services. I cannot wait! I deserve it!
“Jamaica’s Rockhouse hotel is the ultimate exotic escape. With brilliant sunsets, chic décor and credo of brotherhood and goodwill, it’s the total package.”

WORLD TRAVEL AWARDS – “CARIBBEAN’S LEADING BOUTIQUE HOTEL”
At the World Travel Awards Gala Ceremony held in October 2011, Rockhouse Hotel won “Caribbean’s Leading Boutique Hotel” beating out an impressive list of nominees including Cap Juluca and Malliouhana from Anguilla, The Caves and Golden Eye from Jamaica, Parrot Cay and Point Grace from Turks & Caicos, and Horned Dorset Primavera from Puerto Rico. Dubbed “the Oscars of the tourism industry” the World Travel Awards were established in 1993 and reflect the votes of thousands of travel professionals from over 200 countries around the world. This award for Rockhouse follows six years of consecutive nominations in this category.
Rockhouse is a boutique hotel stretching across the cliffs of Pristine Cove. Nestled amongst eight acres of tropical lush gardens, thatched roofed villas are perched on the water’s edge. Guests swim in the sixty foot horizon pool or take the stairs carved into the rock down to the cove for snorkeling on the reef.
Facilities include the hotel’s two award winning restaurants led by Executive Chef Kevin Broderick, Jamaica Food Awards repeat “Chef of the Year” 2011 & 2010. A newly constructed Spa has a philosophy that is a simple, holistic approach to well-being, health and happiness. Spa treatments are undertaken “on-the-rocks” in the cliff-edge Massage Cabana or at the eight room garden spa. Yoga classes are offered daily overlooking the sea.
Consistently ranked one of the top resorts in the Caribbean, in addition to winning Caribbean’s Leading Boutique Hotel at the 2011 World Travel Awards, the Rockhouse is included in Travel + Leisure’s August 2011 “World’s Best Awards” and Conde Nast Traveler’s November 2011 Readers Choice list of the “Best in the World”. Patricia Schults names Rockhouse as one of the “1000 Places to See Before You Die” in her New York Times Best Selling Book, and Kay Showker features Rockhouse in her book “The 100 Best Resorts in the Caribbean.” Rockhouse is a member of Design Hotels, an international lifestyle brand synonymous with distinctive architecture and interior design, balanced with functionality and exceptional service.
The hotel is located on the cliffs, two and a half miles west of Negril town on Negril’s West End Road. The hotel is sited on the western most point of Jamaica – the best spot for sunsets. The closest major international airport is Montego Bay, just over an hour away.
The objective of the hotel is to responsibly and sustainably balance the interests of all the parties: giving the guests an amazing boutique hotel vacation, making our team partners in its success, taking care of the environment (Green Globe Certified), while putting back into the community through the Rockhouse Foundation which has invested over US$1 million in local public schools and libraries.
“JAMAICA IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD AND THE ROCKHOUSE IS ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE HOTELS. WHEN YOU GO THERE YOU HAVE THIS INCREDIBLE, CLIFF TOP EXPERIENCE. THIS IS THE KIND OF PLACE THAT YOU TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF AS SOON AS YOU WALK IN AND NEVER PUT THEM BACK ON. THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THOSE GREAT GEMS. BUT WHETHER YOU’RE TAKING A DIP IN THE GREAT INFINITY POOL OR YOU’RE WATCHING THE STUNNING SUNSETS WITH A RED STRIPE IN HAND–THIS IS A PLACE I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.”INTERVIEW WITH TRAVEL + LEISURE’S NILOU MOTAMED ON NBC’S THE TODAY SHOW
